Backroads Day 6: 45.0 bike miles, Healdsburg, Big Sur, Post Ranch Inn, Sierra Mar
After a quick breakfast we got back on the bikes and headed north on Highway 1 for about 10 miles,
enjoying the views of the ocean and surf and hills at every turn. Then we headed inland along the
Russian River, stopping in Monte Rio for a scrumptious bear claw and latte at the
Gold Coast Coffee and Bakery
in Duncans Mills.
We rode on to the
Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve,
where we gulped down our picnic lunch
and then continued on to
J. Rochioli Vineyards
for a quick taste, and then made a final push to Healdsburg and
the Madrona Manor Inn.
We rode 45.0 miles in 3.4 hours for an 13.2 mph average -- a nice cruiser ride to finish the trip!
Over the six days we rode 286.4 miles in 23.3 hours (thanks to Lisa's bike GPS for the detailed
statistics), for an average speed of 12.3 miles per hour!
We showered, dressed, grabbed our bags and rental car, and then drove south through San Francisco,
arriving at
Post Ranch Inn
in
Big Sur
in just under five hours (Friday afternoon traffic).
We had a lovely meal at
Sierra Mar
accompanied by a
Krug N.V. Champagne
and a
1996 La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain.
For dessert we had a glass of
1989 Rieussec
and
1971 Don PX Gran Riserva.
