Arrive Auckland, lunch Cin Cin, Ascott Metropolis
We took a car from the airport to our hotel, and after checking in and freshening up, we walked down to
Cin Cin
at 99 Quay Street for Lunch. We enjoyed a 1998 TOM, from www.montanawines.com, named for Tom MacDonald,
who is credited with starting the red wine business in New Zealand in the 20th century. The grapes listed on the
label (merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc) suggested Pomerol, but the acidic tightness of the wine
reminded us more of Italy, with pronounced grassy notes reminiscent of the few New Zealand sauvignon blanc wines
we have tasted.
We ate room service at our hotel and played a three-handed game of Peachfuzz, and Ben took photos
as night descended of the green and red lights illuminating the
Sky Tower
-- at 1076 feet high the tallest structure in the southern hemisphere.
