Balloons, Opus One Winery, Redd, San Francisco, Stanyan Park Hotel, Indigo
Ben got up at dawn to take a walk and captured some nice photos of hot air balloons and
sunrise in Yountville,
and then we walked over to
Bouchon Bakery
for a light breakfast.
We checked out of our hotel and then drove to
Opus One Winery
in time for our 10:00 a.m. tour and tasting. The winery is beautiful, and the new grape
handling system -- including a destemer that separates each grape from the stem and
a machine that optical identifies the undesireable grapes (too ripe or not ripe enough) and discards them with a puff of air -- is magical.
The wines are good, but perhaps not the quality they used to be, but they remain pricey. :-)
After our tour, we had lunch at
Redd
in Yountville and then drove back over a fog-enshrouded
Golden Gate Bridge
to San Francisco.
We checked into the
Stanyan Park Hotel
and Ben went for a walk (up and down hills) with his friend Grant.
Then it was time for dinner at
Indigo
with Ben's friends Adam and Tonia.
