Hike to Haruru Falls, barbeque (Backroads Day 1)
Lisa went for a 12 mile run and then we walked to the Woolworth grocery store for supplies.
For breakfast we made scrambled eggs and toasted bagels with orange juice, accompanied by *golden* kiwifruit and cherries,
both from New Zealand.
We met up with our Backroads leaders, Jo and Paul, and the other five guests: Lori, Emerald, Chris, Donovan, and Katie.
After orientation, we piled into the van and drove to the start of the path to Haruru Falls. It took us a bit over 1.5 hours
to traverse the path through fern and pine forests and a mangrove swamp (the Hutia Creek Mangrove Forest Boardwalk), where
we saw Tui and white-faced herons, to Haruru Falls.
We drove back to our lodging and then enjoyed a scrumptious barbeque dinner prepared by Jo and Paul.
